Fish counts on the Kenai River are officially recorded by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G). Late-run sockeye counts are captured using sonar at **River Mile 19**, while late-run king counts are measured at **River Mile 13.7**. Sonar technology operates continuously to capture the escapement data needed to manage commercial, sport, and personal-use fisheries.

Historical comparisons and the 10-year average are computed using ADF&G reports spanning the past decade. During Personal Use dipnetting and peak sport seasons, sonar updates are generally published once daily.
